  1. I am a 15 year old girl from Rochester who is interested in starting fencing. I do not own any equiptment, and I do not know any rules of the game. Is there a class to get me started?

    1. Shivani,
We have a class starting on April 8. We have all of the equipment. You can find the class at http://activenet13.active.com/rochesterce/ and search for 9180.232. This is the adult community ed fencing class. It is listed with 16 as the minimum age, but 15 is fine. Just tell them I approved you if anyone asks.

      Thanks,
      Steve Halter

If you have any questions, feel free to send them.

  2. Hi, is this club still active? I fenced epee for almost 10 years, but haven’t in a while and would love to start again. I had no idea Rochester had a club!

  3. Hi…I went to the fencing class tonight (June 3) and Hawthorne was locked. Was the class cancelled? Is there anything going on this summer?
    Thanks

    1. That’s odd. We were there and the doors were open. The Thursday class is done, but there is one more Monday class on the 6th. Watch the site for summer info.

  4. My daughter (age 13) is interested in fencing. Are there any classes in the area in which she could enroll? I see that there are two major clubs in the Cities but that’s a little too far to go just to find out more about the sport. Any assistance would be appreciated!

    1. Robin, there are fencing classes through Rochester community education. There are no classes in the summer, but classes are scheduled again for the fall. Try this link to view/register for classes. I’m not sure when the fall classes will be posted, but they should be starting sometime in September. If you have any questions about the classes or fencing in general, please ask.

    1. Laura,
Adult beginning fencing will start again in Fall of 2012. I don’t have the exact date handy, but it will be in September.

  5. My son has taken a few lessons and is interested in continuing with the sport of fencing. Will you have classes available for Winter 2013? I looked on the Rochester community ed website, but they only had classes listed that were ending December 2012. If you are offering classes early next year, can you tell me when we would be able to register?

    1. Registration and posting of Rochester Community Education winter and spring Fencing classes starts in early January, 2013. The 2013 brochure will also be available once school begins in January.

  6. Hi. I am interested in getting back into fencing. I did fencing for about 5 years in California, but have not done any fencing within the last 8 years. My wife may be interested in starting as well. When do the next classes start? How do I register?

  7. My son and I are interested in enrolling this Fall. He’s in 7th Grade. Is it possible for him and I to enroll in the adult class as long as I am with him? We have equipment already.

  8. Hey! I’m interested in getting into fencing. I’m 27 and I’ve never fenced but I have done a lot with other sword sports, and would learn quickly. I don’t have any equipment. Help me out?

  9. Hi Steven-
I am newly retired and am interested in revisiting fencing. I fenced in high school in NYC and fenced a bit in college. I have not touched my foil since 1966. My question is whether to sign up for the Adult Fencing for beginners or the Open Fencing class through CE?

I look forward to your reply
